ABOUT TAILS FROM THE HOMESTEAD

About Tails from the Homestead — just down the road from where I grew up

A small Kansas homestead, a houseful of animals, and a life that never really left them behind.

Welcome to the About Tails from the Homestead page — I’m Caryn, and I didn’t move far to get here. My small homestead near the Kansas/Oklahoma border sits just down the street from my parents’ place — the same place I grew up surrounded by dogs, cats, goats, a cow, and a horse. Animals have just always been part of my life.

These days it’s Boomer and Ollie running the show at my house, with a small herd of goats and a barn cat named Hina rounding things out. This blog is where I share what actually works — the products, the routines, and the occasional happy accident — for anyone else trying to keep a houseful of pets (and a little bit of homestead) running smoothly.

🐾 The Dogs

Boomer the Chiweenie

Boomer

A golden-tan Chiweenie with a short coat and a compact build — small but absolutely the loudest voice in the house.

Ollie the Dameranian with his pumpkin toy

Ollie

A fluffy cream Dameranian (Pomeranian/Dachshund mix) with the big ears and fluffy tail to match — soft on the outside, a little bit of a troublemaker underneath.

Olivia Alice, foster chihuahua

Olivia Alice Current Foster

A tiny white chihuahua we’re currently fostering. She’s settling in fast and stealing hearts around here, Boomer and Ollie included.

🐐 The Goats

Our Nigerian Dwarf goats are technically here to help manage the brush and weeds — though most days they seem more interested in the garden than the actual job description.

They free-range around the property most days, which means they show up in more blog photos than I originally planned — and honestly, I’m fine with that.

🐱 Hina the Cat

Hina the orange cat napping

Hina

An orange tabby who claims every sunny spot on the property as her own — buckets, beach toys, and laundry piles included.

📐 The Other Side of About Tails from the Homestead

When I’m not out with the animals, I’m a high school math teacher — almost 30 years in now. I also run a math education site called Caryn Loves Math. The two sides of my life don’t overlap much, but I figure it’s worth mentioning: if I’m not knee-deep in a garden bed, I’m probably grading quadratics.

Glad You’re Here

Whether you’re here for the dog care tips, the homestead projects, or just to see what the crew is up to this week — welcome.
